BOUNDLESS MEDICAL
OUR VISION
Boundless Medical was founded by British Columbia family physicians Dr. Stuart Bax and Dr. Cal Shapiro, with a shared belief that physicians could play an active role in developing practical solutions to gaps in healthcare delivery.
Over the years, Boundless evolved from an independent diagnostic service during the COVID-19 pandemic into a broader clinical organization encompassing family medicine and innovative approaches to preventive care.
OUR WORK
Over the years, Boundless Medical developed and delivered a range of physician-led healthcare services, grounded in a commitment to accessible, practical and patient-centred care.
Longitudinal Care
Boundless Medical also supported Dr. Stuart Bax's longitudinal family medicine practice, providing comprehensive, relationship-based care with an emphasis on continuity, accessibility and the importance of knowing patients over time.
Following Dr. Bax's relocation, the practice closed and is no longer providing clinical appointments.
Cancer Care
In 2023, we founded CanScreen to address barriers to cancer screening for British Columbians without a regular family physician.
Over three years, this virtual-first service helped thousands of people access screening and appropriate follow-up, identifying numerous cancers along the way.
Diagnostics
During the pandemic, we established an independent, physician-led testing facility in Victoria, investing in our own on-site PCR equipment and obtaining provisional accreditation through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC's Diagnostic Accreditation Program.
The service provided timely testing for individuals and businesses, supporting the safe resumption of travel, tourism and other activities during a challenging period.
LOOKING BACK
Boundless Medical was built on a simple belief: physicians can do more than identify gaps in healthcare. We can help develop practical solutions.
From establishing independent diagnostic services during the pandemic to delivering longitudinal patient care and developing CanScreen, each initiative brought different challenges, opportunities and lessons.
Not everything we developed was intended to last indefinitely, and not every initiative achieved the long-term sustainability we had hoped for. Yet each reinforced the value of clinical independence, innovation, collaboration and a willingness to challenge established approaches when patients' needs are not being met.
We are proud of the care delivered, the services created and the contributions made to improving healthcare access. Above all, we are grateful to the patients who placed their trust in us and to the colleagues and partners who supported our work.
Although our clinical services have concluded, the experience and lessons gained remain an important part of our professional journeys.
